Session VI (2-8 May)

Tough week!

I've struggled with a sort of backward approach to the lit review this week. When I have a point that I want to make but haven't found that article or peice of research that states it, I end up going off looking for more articles, even though I should have been wrapping-up the lit review.

I also found some frustration in the fact that I spent the better part of a month scouring the stacks and reading literature for all three main areas of my review, but the week 5 course presentation added the option of focusing on one of the main areas.

At least I don't have the stomach flu!

Brian,

I am very glad that you have found many good articles and used the grading methods the textbook introduced.

As you mentioned, finding good resources are one thing and reading/digesting those are other thing. I guess there is no royal road to make literature review really easy. The things you are going through are a part of the process.

Organizing articles by topics in binders is a good idea. If I share one of my strategies that I found useful is using different colors of highlighters. I also prefer reading hard copy articles. You may use different colors for different topics. Hence, assigning different colors to different topics must be preceded. If you try this, please let me know how it works.

Cheers,

Baek

Very funny...that Sunday sucked! :) Anyway you sound buried in articles. I too feel your pain. I always needed to go back and find more to support what my claims were. Anyways now with the IRB I am trying to meet the deadline this Friday. We'll see, I want to get it turned in and going already. Keep working hard, I am sure you are. Talk to you soon and good luck
